Meeting at the Lebanese Embassy: Focus on Lebanese Students in Italy

Rome, Feb. 16, 2026 – An institutional meeting was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Lebanon in Rome between Welcome Association Italy and H.E. Carla Jazzar, Lebanon’s Ambassador to Italy, dedicated to the analysis of the situation of Lebanese students present in our country.

The initiative is a significant step in strengthening the dialogue between diplomatic representation and operational entities engaged in supporting international academic mobility.

The growth of Lebanese students in Italy

During the meeting, the latest data on Lebanese student attendance was presented.

As of December 31, 2024, they are:

  • 1,365 residence permits for study purposes
  • Out of a total of 6,119 total permits
  • With a “study” share of 22.31 percent

Over the period 2015-2024, there was a 95 percent growth in study permits (from 700 to 1,365), indicating a consolidated and structural trend.

Internal data from Welcome Association Italy also confirm this dynamic:

  • 683 Lebanese nationality members in 2025
  • more than 96% with motivation to stay for study purposes

It is a young, highly skilled community oriented toward medium- to long-term university paths.


The needs illustrated by Welcome Association Italy

During the meeting, Welcome Association Italy presented the main critical issues that emerged from direct discussions with international students, with particular reference to the Lebanese community.

Among the topics addressed:

  • Timing and complexity of residence permit procedures
  • Need for greater clarity of information in the pre-departure phase
  • Health and insurance coverage
  • Access to housing
  • Coordination between Italian institutions and consular representations

The shared goal is to reduce operational difficulties through information tools and more structured preventive dialogue.
