Reimbursement of medical expenses in Italy with Welcome Association Italy

One of our Syndicate's main goals is to simplify the bureaucratic process for foreigners entering Italy with an Entry Visa or Residence Permit. The Italian authorities, among the documents required for arrival in Italy, require health coverage that complies with the' Art. 39 c.3 286/1998 and the Directive 01.03.2000 of the Ministry of the Interior. That is why we have included such coverage in our packages aimed at foreign nationals.

Claiming medical expenses with coverage offered by WAI

The coverage included in Welcome Association Italy's package for non-EU citizens is valid in case of sudden illness or injury. It covers medical expenses incurred by the associate during hospitalization at a public hospital or for urgent hospital services. In order to apply for reimbursement of medical expenses, it is mandatory to go through the emergency room of a public hospital. Thereafter, the associate must contact the Syndicate and follow the instructions provided by Welcome Assistants. Going to the emergency room of a public hospital is not a guarantee of reimbursement for medical expenses. It is necessary, therefore, to be clear in which cases the associate is insured and which are not. Below we give you the broad guidelines.

What is not insured

The health care coverage under the agreement in our packages for non-EU citizens is limited to the reimbursement of medical expenses having an emergency nature. There are, however, emergency situations that do not qualify for reimbursement of medical expenses. The main exclusions concern urgent hospital services related to:

• Previous pathologies and diseases,
• mental and/or psychic disorders,
• treatment or surgery related to malformations or accidents prior to the purchase of the Welcome package,
• Surgery for correction of the nasal septum,
• dental care and periodontal disease,
• Damage resulting from armed conflicts, insurrections, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions,
• Injuries resulting from crimes committed by the associate,
• Health problems due to alcohol and/or substance abuse,
• Injuries resulting from air sports or any sport practiced professionally,
• Injuries resulting from participation in automobile, motorcycle and motorboat races or competitions and related practice and training.

What are the medical expenses with urgent character?

We cannot report concrete examples of medical expenses covered by the insurance included in our package because the character of urgency is determined by the doctor in the emergency room of the public hospital who assesses the condition of the patient.
