Studying In Italy: introducing LUMSA University

Welcome Association Italy is a trade union whose mission is to provide assistance to its members through the issuing of combos for visas or residence permits containing healthcare coverages. To pursue its goal, the trade union has decided to build a strong network with the main universities in Italy, creating important connections to benefit the international students who seek assistance. For this reason, today we are going to introduce an important Italian University in partnership with us, the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta (LUMSA). What is the LUMSA University? The Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta is an Italian private academic institution with catholic values. Its headquarter is in Rome, but due to the quality of the teaching, the University has created two additional venues, one in Palermo (1984) and the second one in Taranto (1997). Foundation and history LUMSA was founded in 1939, by Luigia Tincani, a Dominican nun who dedicated herself to education. As we can read from LUMSA’s website:   “Luigia Tincani built her educational path on intellectual charity, namely on the belief that study and teaching are the paths to the greatest service to young people.”   With this spirit Sister Tincani, with the support of Pope Pio XII, founded the High institute of Teaching Maria Santissima Assunta, which will later become Libera Università (1989). LUMSA is the second oldest University in Rome, behind La Sapienza, and it is characterized by Christian values and a close relationship between the students and the professors. During the first decades, LUMSA was reserved for the education of the nuns, only during the 60s there was a change that allowed laic students to enroll. Educational offer Starting from 1989, the date in which the High institute of Teaching was officially recognized as an Italian University, LUMSA soon deployed courses in the sciences of communication and journalism. Moreover, it soon set up the faculties of Jurisprudence, Political Science, Economics, and Psychology. Despite the introduction of several new faculties and courses, the main message of the founder remained, giving particular attention to the field of pedagogy and didactics. Why LUMSA: Teaching, Activities, projects Today LUMSA is a well-known University and it seems to have positive feedback from exchange students. The reason behind the high number of exchange students that decide to attend LUMSA lies in the fact that the university, with its nine thousand students and four hundred professors, provides very qualitative teaching methods, allowing close interaction between professors and students. Moreover, the University provides a wide variety of projects and activities for its students, such as Equovento, to avoid food waste, LUMSA EcoGroup, to raise awareness on environmental pollution, etc... The collaboration between WAI and LUMSA Thanks to the awards and the quality of the teachings, LUMSA attracts a large number of international students every year. To be able to provide private healthcare coverage to non-EU students who undertake a university career at the LUMSA, a collaboration has arisen with Welcome Association Italy. In fact, by joining the Welcome package for non-EU citizens requesting a residence permit in Italy for more than 90 days for study reasons, international students will be able to apply for a residence permit without problems and concentrate solely on attending this important Italian academic institution.
